Lindbergh High School SkillsUSA Club

SkillsUSA Club is a great resource for the community!  We make banners, posters, plaques, t-shirts, and sweaters!  We can special order many other items, such as acrylic awards.  We also offer screen printing for T-Shirts, hoodies, and more.

We also do work for other groups in the community and district as well, we aren’t limited to just work with LHS.  Most orders take less than two weeks.

All of our jobs are designed and printed by students.   The profit made goes to the LHS SkillsUSA chapter, which is used to fund community service projects, and send students to SkillsUSA leadership conferences and competitions.  Thank you for your support.

For additional information or a price list, please contact Jim Goodwin at jim.goodwin@rentonschools.us, or phone 425-204-3298.

REMINDER!  Formation of 2013 Committee -  First Meeting Tuesday, October 27, 7:00pm, LHS Library.

Grad Night 2013 parents will have their FIRST MEETING this day. In order to make this successful, we need to start NOW!  A West Coast Entertainment representative will be the speaker for the evening.  Come and learn exactly what we need to do for Grad Night!  If you have any questions, please contact Carrie at sidekik@msn.com.

GRAD NIGHT GENERAL FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES

Dealing for Dollars - Training Date Monday, Nov. 16, 6:30pm, LHS Commons

West Coast Entertainment offers an opportunity to pay down the ticket price.  They are in need of Blackjack Dealers for their party events this holiday season, and are willing to train Grad Night parents to work at these parties.  For each night, you will receive a $50.00 credit, which will pay down your total ticket price.  Kids 16 years and over can train with their parents/guardians.  Training usually takes one to two three hours sessions before the planned event.

A training date has been scheduled for Monday, November 16th, at 6:30pm, in the LHS Commons.  We must have at least 10-15 parents at this training session.  Mock blackjack tables will be set up, and veteran dealers provide step-by-step instructions.

If you are interested in participating, need a refresher course, OR if you have already trained and would like to sign up for West Coast December holiday events, please contact Carrie Wong at Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. or tel. (425) 271-0743, no later than November 6th, so we can include you on the list!

The biggest benefit for participating in "Dealing for Dollars" is that you can have the entire ticket paid off, with no cost to you.  Training is free.  For example, one couple worked together at the holiday events.  At $50 per person, per event, they paid off their child's ticket in just two events!

".   If your child is interested in entering a work of art in the form of a drawing, painting, literature, photograph, musical piece, or other venue, entry forms are available in the school's library.  All entries must have a completed Official Entry Form, and must be signed by the student and parent/guardian.  Please turn in all entries to the main office by Monday, November 9, 2009.

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA student arts recognition program.  The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.  Each year, Reflections challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme.  Information and entry packets are also available online at:

WEB LINKS TO ATHLETIC INFORMATION

Below is information on how to access the athletic schedules and forms that are on our district athletic web pages.

Here is the link to the forms page where we now have high school sports clearance forms (including the new head injury/concussion form we are asking middle schools to use as well) as well as all of our sport specific warning letters:

http://www.rentonschools.us/Departments/Activities_and_Athletics/
AthleticForms

Here is the link to the sport schedules page where we post both the high school and middle school sport schedules (middle schools are on the lower half of the page):

http://www.rentonschools.us/Departments/Activities_and_Athletics/
SportsSchedules

Rather than having each school upload the forms to their own pages, schools will now link to our pages. That way, as we update the schedules or forms, the school page will be current as well.

To find these pages without the above links, you do the following:

1)     Go to the Renton School District home page at www.rentonschools.us
2)     In the menus near the top, just under the photo bar, click on “District Departments”
3)     Scroll down to Extracurricular and click on “Activities and Athletics”
4)     Once on the Activities and Athletics main page, choose the appropriate menu from the left side—Sport Schedules or Athletic Forms

HIGHSCHOOLSPORTS.NET

There is another way to to view games, scrimmages, practices, etc.   For a comprehensive schedule of Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports, scrimmages, practices, clubs (e.g., International, Rocket, Deca, Key, Speech, Chess), parent group meetings, Class events and sales, and much more, go to HighSchoolSports.net.  The direct link is:  http://www.highschoolsports.net/

Click on the tab "My School", and type in Lindbergh High School.   Pick LHS in Renton (NOT the St. Louis one!).  You can view the schedule for two days, the week, month, or the entire season!  This is the most comprehensive schedule yet!  You can also sign up to receive e-mails or text messages, alerting you to changes in the schedule, cancelled games and meets, and scores.

Renton School Board resolution opposes Initiative 1033 on Nov. 3 ballot

October 15, 2009―Renton School Board members at their recent meeting took action against Initiative 1033, the Tim Eyman-backed tax-reform initiative on the Error! Hyperlink reference not valid..

The board joins a broad coalition of state business, labor, community and education organizations that oppose the initiative which would cap the yearly growth of state, county and city general funds at the rate of inflation, plus population growth.

Opponents say the initiative will create greater need for statewide cuts, which would further devastate public services and education, and impede recovery from the recession.

Eyman has said the initiative would lower property taxes and provide another barrier to keep state and local officials from raising taxes.

Renton School Board’s legislative representative Pam Teal worked on the wording of the Board’s resolution which states the measure would further erode the state’s P-12 education funding, causing deeper cuts to the district’s budget.

State economic forecasters have predicted that the initiative would eliminate most if not all of the state school levy funding in five to six years: an elimination of 25 percent of state school funding that is sent directly to districts.

Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. about this initiative and other ballot issues, including Renton School Board races.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT I-1033 NOW AVAILABLE ON WSPTA WEBSITE

Initiative 1033, the latest Tim Eyman effort to limit government spending, was not on the formal agenda at the Legislative Assembly, but was a major topic among those in attendance because of its potential adverse effects on public education and other services important to children.  If adopted, the initiative would limit the total revenue that could be expended in any calendar year to the amount received in 2009, plus an adjustment based on a national inflation index and any increase in the general population.

The Office of Financial Management has estimated that this initiative would deprive publically funded education and health services almost $6 billion in support over the next six years.  As reported in earlier editions, the WSPTA Board of Directors has gone on record as opposing the initiative at its August meeting.  In response to requests from many in attendance at the Legislative Assembly, we have established a separate page on our website at Error! Hyperlink reference not valid..  Be sure to check back often because we will be updating this information frequently.
